Self-Reflection on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and UX Research

Hej there! 👋 It’s been a while since I wrote in Medium.

To be honest with all the tech disruptions, I decided to be more of a quiet observer to get educated. I took some prompt engineering certifications to get a sense of what AI can do now and where it’s heading, my hope is that it allows me to have a more realistic view of what might soon be delegated to an LLM. From all these trainings, one of the things I want to emphasize is that no one really knows what current LLMs are capable of, since most of the tests conducted by AI companies, they focus mostly on coding and testing benchmarks — Claude vs Gemini vs GPT 4, i am sure we heard that competition on who has the best cutting edge tech before.

Emerging social topics of UX Research data and AI: My thought

In my own little corner as I scroll through social media, I see other UX researchers talking all about using GenAI for exploring research questions, creating personas, brainstorming, I even heard of someone playing around with chatbots for initial user interviews!

But amidst this wave of innovation, AI is only good as it is trained on. I am not hearing enough discussions regarding safety. research by the Almanac revealed that AI safety research comprises only 2% of all research into the broader AI domain, this highlights an important need that we need to remain vigilant, and uphold ethical standards into our practice because this essentially translate into direct…
